The Smurfs

Client: Sony Pictures

Agency: Spinnaker Direct

The Smurfs in 3D featured on MSN’s homepage as a fullscreen page takeover. Smurfs has a huge fan base and so to attract them and new viewers I designed and built an animated smurf that runs around the page bumping into to page elements and then gets inside the MPU. When the user clicks the MPU, the page slides down to reveal the trailer and additional content.

Agency: Havas London

Credit Suisse wanted to show how their partnerships benefit their business clients. As part of this campaign we showcased several clients and created unique animations for each to sit on the credit suisse website. Several animators worked on this project but I took Akris, Frescobaldi, Oxygen.

For Oxygen I had to create 4 formats, the most intensive was for an airport lounge display screen. I had to build an entirely new scene in photoshop then animate the girl on the scooter though one scene into the other and have her drive off into the distance with subtle movement from the dinosaurs and waterfalls. I also created a hero panel for the website, MPUs and leaderboards.

Arthur Christmas

Client: Sony Pictures

Agency: Spinnaker Direct

Arthur Christmas was Sony’s big 2011 Christmas movie, they wanted a big attention grabbing Yahoo Homepage takeover. We delivered a Yahoo world first, Yahoo featured the campaign on their Internet Week stall and needless to say Sony were over the moon. We synced all four banner spaces to create a continuous background and then animated elves and Arthur within this space. Once the intro video has finised I included lovely details like the elf’s eyes following the mouse and hotspots where the characters would jump or swing out. Once you click you are taken to the trailer then to the menu.

O2 Priority Moments

Client: O2
Agency: VCCP London

The Priority Moments multi-million pound campaign “Thinking of You” for O2 promoted the benefits customers get from being with O2. Based on the insight that customers want brands to give them a sense of optimism, the campaign has a mythical and surreal creative feel. I was asked to help translate this into their digital content.

Client: Warner Bros
Agency: Bauer

To promote the new Warner Bros game ‘Fear 3′ I concepted, designed and built this MPU banner of a beating heart. Bauer specified it needed to work as a sequential ad so the more times you see the ad or the more times you touch over it with the mouse the faster the heart beats and the heavier the breathing gets.

Client: BBC

These banners, which won Flash Talking’s Campaign of the Month Award, raised awareness for the popular BBC 1 show. The spinning man was built and animated in 3D. I brought it to life in After Effects by creating the scene, adding lighting and reflections. Then I designed and created the animation style and built the ads for Flash Talking. A results database was incorporated to store the results of the experiment. The ads did extremely well, with an engagement rate of 32%.

Sarah Jane Adventures

Client: BBC

This campaign was for the popular CBBC TV series “The Sarah Jane Adventures”. Our banner closely resembled a game where you follow Sarah and help her make decisions along the way. Working in After Effects and then in Flash, this piece really shows how immersive a banner can be. I really enjoyed creating this banner, from the glitch effects on the text to the lightning zapping the monsters through to the mouse-controlled targeting system for theā€¦ lipstick?

What happens when you drop a tonne of water on a car? This was the question we posed to promote Richard Hammonds’ ‘Blast Lab’. The banner proved to be extremely popular. It was viewed by over 1 million unique users, with an incredible 32% of them interacting with the ad.
